The Independent National Electoral Commission said on Friday it would distribute Permanent Voters Cards between January 10 and 15 in Borno State.
Prof. Tukur Sa’ad, the outgoing Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, said this while speaking with newsmen in Maiduguri, the state capital.
Sa’ad, however, said the exercise would be limited to Maiduguri and Jere Local Government Areas due to the prevailing security challenges in the state.
He said that INEC would also conduct Continuous Voter Registration for individuals who had attained voter’s age during the period.
Sa’ad said the exercises would take place at ward levels as well as at the Internally Displaced Persons camps in the areas.
He said: “The issuance of PVC to registered voters and the CVR will take place in Maiduguri and Jere LGA considered being relatively safe for now.
“The exercise will last for six days.
“The PVC will be issued based on the temporary voters’ card issued at the nationwide voters registration in 2010.
“PVC is like an ATM card that will not allow an individual to vote more than once in an election.
“The CVR is for individuals who have attained voter’s age or those whose names were missing in the voters register.”
Sa’ad said INEC was making contact with security agents to extend the exercise to Biu and Shani Local Government Areas.
