Chittaboina Rahul Yadav of India has won the 3rd Lagos International Badminton Classics after defeating fellow country man Karan Rajan in an explosive final match to emerge winner at the end.
The match started off with Rajan mounting the pressure on his opponent in the first five minutes of the game as Yadav later got the needed momentum to take the pressure back to his counterpart.
This positioned Yadav to win the two straight sets 21:15 and 21:13 in the men’s single final.
Reacting to the performance of participating teams, the Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, represented by his Special Adviser on Central Business District, Hon. Agboola Dabiri, said the hosting of the International Badminton Classics that was competed for by 11 counties is born out of his administration’s mandate to achieve tourism through sports.
According to Ambode, sports is a vital tool in every country, to promote and showcase its cultural heritage, to grow its economy and create employment for many talented citizens irrespective of their areas of operational gifts.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports/Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Deji Tinubu, said the Badminton Classics was hosted to show that Lagos could give players a platform to thrive globally.
Tinubu’s words: “This tournament is to show that we don’t need to hassle our Players but we can bring the world here. We can make it happen in Lagos, We can create events here to expose them globally.”
