The Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, on Wednesday cheered Heartland Football Club of Owerri to victory at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, the state capital.
The football match between Heartland FC and Kano Pillars, which was tension soaked, was a make or mar outing for the Owerri side.
For its importance, Madumere earlier in the day visited Heartland boys in their camp, where he gave them words of encouragement.
He delivered Governor Rochas Okorocha’s address and plans lined up for their welfare and the boys in return promised to play out their heart
The Imo deputy governor, who promised mobilizing the who-is-who in Imo State to join in cheering them up, kept his promise when he stormed the Dan Anyiam Stadium with over 200 functionaries, friends and well wishers.
True to their words and with Prince Madumere’s presence, Heartland FC defeated the league leaders from Kano by two goals to nil.
The two goals were scored by Udor Kingsley and Kelechi Bright.
It will be recalled that Prince Madumere has received several accolades for his sports-friendly gestures.
He was once described as an invisible utility player of Heartland FC.
While addressing the press amid accolades, Madumere said he was impressed with the players for their team playing spirit.
He charged them to reinvigorate the indomitable spirit Heartland FC is known for.
He promised to be putting in appearances in their home matches.
He further promised to reach out to the players for their stellar performances.
