Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has said he was not averse to the zoning system of governorship position in 2015 among the three senatorial districts in Akwa Ibom State as insinuated by some people.
Akpabio, who stated this Wednesday when executive members of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio, led by Ntisong Ibibio 111, Ntisong Essien Ekidem, paid him a courtesy visit at Governor’s Office, Uyo, said he would only oppose the election of a governorship candidate said to be lacking in vision and capability to continue with the current development tempo of Akwa Ibom.
He said: ”Let me reiterate that by 2015, we would increase the positive history and make positive things to happen in the state….
“I am not against the zoning system of governorship position among the senatorial districts.
“Rather, we need an Akwa Ibom person that can perform.
“At the level of our development, let’s look for a governor who’ll develop and move the state forward.
“So, I call for love among our people and for acceptance of the next government, for no society can survive without peace and harmony.
”My administration is building a sustainable infrastructure in the state.
“When we travel outside the state and see good things there, we bring such to the state because our state believes in development.”
On a request for the establishment of industries in the state, Akpabio remarked: “It is not the duty of government to build industries, but it can encourage the establishment of industries by private persons.
“To create more job employment opportunities for our teeming youths, we are building an industrial cluster.
“We can partner private companies and investors.
“Already, industries are coming to the state.”
While thanking them for the visit, the governor said: “I thank the Ntisong and the entire council for their prayers, support, advice to us in government and keeping the peace of the state and for the recent award of good governance you gave to me.
“This has encouraged me and my team.
“Let’s stay together and love one another.
“There’s nothing that cannot be achieved in the atmosphere of peace and harmony.”
Speaking earlier, Ntisong Ekidem had commended Akpabio for his laudable achievements, especially in developing and putting in place solid infrastructure not seen in many states, describing him as a man of his words and actions.
Ntisong Ekidem lauded the effort of the governor in stemming insecurity, but noted: ”Our children need employment opportunities.
“Let the industries you promised be put in place.
“Akwa Ibom University needs expansion and development to assist many sons and daughters of the state in meeting their yearning of attending tertiary institution.”
On the clamour for the creation of states, he warned some agitators from encroaching on the land belonging to Akwa Ibom State in their desperate demand for a state, but should limit themselves to their territorial boundaries to avoid instilling bad blood among other people not willing to join them.
