The League Management Committee has slammed Lagos-based club, Ikorodu United, with heavy fines after previously announcing the team had been charged for failure to restrict unauthorized persons from restricted areas during their NPFL Match Day 30 game against Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan.
The club also got charged for disturbances caused by its supporters during and after the Nigeria Professional Football League game against 3SC was discontinued.
As a result, Ikorodu United were fined ₦750,000 for failing to restrict unauthorized persons from restricted areas during the game vs 3SC.
Ikorodu United was also fined ₦750,000 for failing to provide adequate crowd control during and after the match.
The LMC, the body which is charged with the responsibility of managing the Nigeria Professional Football League, also stated that Ikorodu Unitedd were in breach of NPFL framework and rules for failing to provide adequate crowd control during its game against 3SC.
The Lagos-based club further breached NPFL rules with its supporters throwing objects onto the pitch leading to the discontinuing of the game versus 3SC.
For objects thrown onto the pitch by its supporters and causing the discontinuance of the said NPFL game, Ikorodu Unitedd is fined ₦2m.
As part of the sanctions, Ikorodu United will play its next three NPFL home games at the M.K.O. Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, starting with matchday 32 versus Tornadoes on August 21.
The Ikorodu United versus 3SC game was disrupted in the 89th minute with scores at 1-1 and the LMC has ruled that the result shall count as a completed fixture.
Ikorodu Unitedd has not later than 5pm on August 19 to appeal or accept the sanctions imposed on it.
However, failure by the club to comply with this requirement within the time limit will be a breach of the NPFL Framework and Rules the statement concluded.
Ikorodu United are 19th on the log with 18 points from 27 games, excluding the abandoned game against 3SC of Ibadan.
