Nigeria first-choice goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, has pulled out of Tuesday’s AFCON rematch against Egypt due to a stomach upset, according to officials.
Ikeme was in goal against Egypt on Friday and his place is now likely to be taken up by South Africa-based goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi.
Team doctor Ibrahim Gyaran said Ikeme cannot be risked after he missed the team’s last two trainings as a result of the stomach upset.
“After the game last Friday, Carl has been struggling with some stomach upset and it has not allowed him train with the rest of the squad,” Gyaran disclosed.
He added: “He is stable, but needs a lot of rest to be back in 100 per cent shape for the kind of high profile game that we have on Tuesday.
“Considering the amount of travel involved as well, it is best we give him a break.”
