Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Kelechi Iheanacho is close to a transfer and he expects the full deal to go through within the next 10 days.
Speaking to the media at a press conference Guardiola held ahead of their pre season game against rivals Manchester United out in the USA, their gaffer confirmed Iheanacho’s time at the Etihad was almost up and he wished him well for the future as the youngster needed to be playing.
Having been linked with the 20-year-old Nigerian international for most of the summer, reports last week – as covered – suggested that a deal had been done between Leicester and City for the player with a reported fee of around the £25 million mark agreed.
It was also speculated that City would have a buy back clause, which Guardiola seemed to confirm.
The delay is an image rights snaggle between Iheanacho’s current and former agents and with him not travelling with City to the USA, it’s not expected that delay will last for much longer.
“Kelechi is close to a move, it should be done in 10 days. It is an honour to work with him. It’s not easy for him as he didn’t get a lot of chances in the team, but his behaviour was good. Kelechi`s a young player. He needs to play at that age and that’s why he, and the club decided, it was best for him to leave.”
