In order to have an efficient and proactive Police Force devoid of corruption, three sections of the Nigeria Police Force have been restructured by the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.
The sections that received the facelifts are Force Education, Peace keeping and Anti-vandalism.
These sections have been placed under the supervision of Deputy Inspectors General of Police.
This was against the norms with regimes, which placed these units under the direct supervision of the IGP.
A police source disclosed that Arase, in his anti-corruption stance, had ordered that some of these units, which were earlier headed by Assistant Commissioners of Police and reporting directly to the IGP, should immediately start reporting to the DIGs.
The source said: “The IGP felt that top officers who ordinarily would have been saddled with the close supervision of these ACPs and DCPs, did not only felt neglected, but had their morals declined over the years by the previous administrations as they were continually bypassed and their men compelled to report to the past IGs.
“You know these junior officers who reported directly to the past IGPs because their appointments were no longer loyal to top officers like Commissioners of Police, Assistant Inspectors General of Police and Deputy Inspectors General of Police.
“With the IGP restructuring, the issue of indiscipline and corruption are generally being addressed by our IGP.”
Another source said the IGP had equally abolished the title of director from the hierarchy of the police as the IGP.
According to the source: “We’re not a ministry that goes with Director as title.
“We are policemen.”
