Seven men were reportedly killed in an early morning attack on the residence of Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, in Soka area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
His wife was also said to have been whisked away by the yet-to-be-identified gunmen, whom his spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, alleged were operatives of the Nigerian Army.
This was disclosed by Chief Banji Akintoye, leader of the Ilana Omo Oodua Group, a coalition of Yoruba secessionist groups.
A statement released by Akintoye’s Communications Manager, Maxwell Adeleye, said the gunmen, who were dressed in military uniforms, took away Igboho’s wife and several others after killing seven occupants of the home.
“The assailants were all dressed in military uniform and spoke French language fluently,” he said.
The attack on the Yoruba activist’s home comes less than three days to the planned Yoruba Nation rally scheduled to hold on July 3 in Lagos.
Koiki, in a live video on his Facebook page, had also said the attackers wore military uniforms.
Koiki also said among those whisked away by the gunmen during the attack was a close ally of Igboho, simply identified as Lady K.
Igboho’s vehicles, including his G-Wagon, Prado Jeep and some valuable properties, including furniture and windows, were destroyed.
Bullet holes were reportedly found in cars parked in the premises, while blood stains were seen on the premises.
The spokesman of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Adewale Osifeso, was yet to confirm the incident as at press time.
