The Nigeria Wrestling Federation says it is impressed with the performance of Team Nigeria at the just concluded Matteo Pellicone Ranking Series tournament in Rome.
The President of the NWF, Daniel Igali, in telephone chat with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Ibadan, Oyo State, described the outcome as refreshing for the federation and a good experience for the athletes.
“We have what we need to keep working on from the skills and level of technicalities they exhibited,” he said.
Igali, who is also the Commissioner for Sports in Bayelsa State, added: “We will continue to work on further strengthening our weakness and sharpen our advantages.”
NAN reports that five female wrestlers represented the country at the tournament.
They are Odunayo Adekuoroye (57kg), Blessing Oborududu (68kg), Aminat Adeniyi (62kg), Blessing Onyebuchi (76kg) and Mercy Genesis (50kg).
Adekuoroye won gold, while Oborududu clinched a bronze medal.
