The Inspector General of Police, MD Abubakar, has challenged members of the police sports squad to win the diadem of the maiden edition of the Okpekpe 10km marathon race slated to hold on May 4.
Disclosing this to select journalists in Abuja, the IG shocked everyone when he signed the register to participate in the Very Important Personality race along with the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
The Abubakar also used the signing ceremony to deploy the former Security Officer of the Super Eagles, ACP Gideon Akinsola, to the Edo State capital, Benin City, where he is expected to work with the state police Commissioner in ensuring that lives and properties in Okpekpe and its environments were free of crimes.
Interestingly, the IG sent signals to Benin urging the state police commissioner to deploy anti-bomb squad to provide the security network to forestall any untoward act from criminals and terrorists in the wake of what happened during the Boston marathon race in the United States of America.
Already, the hitherto sleepy town called Okpekpe is buzzing with life with reports rife that the indigenes are elated that visitors are coming to participate in the 10km race, Abubakar and Oshiomhole.
