IBILE Games will return to Lagos this year — Official

The Lagos State Sports Commission on Tuesday assured residents of the state that the state’ sports festival, “IBILE Games’’, would come up soon.
Hakeem Olukunga, a member of the commission’s governing board, gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
NAN reports that IBILE Games were last held in 2014.
Olukunga, spoke with NAN shortly before the commencement of the NOC capacity building and training for the Nigeria Association for Physical Health Education Recreation, Sports and Dance.
The NOC in collaboration with NAPHER-SD organised the three-day Olympic Solidarity Sports Administration Course for its members at the NOC Conference Hall, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The administration course is for sports administrators from across the country with astute sports administration facilitators on hand to give lectures on important topics.
He said that the state government was sure that Lagosians were eagerly awaiting the staging of the Lagos Sports Festival, tagged IBILE Games, noting that it would come up soon.
Olukunga said the sports-loving Governor Akinwunmi Ambode had given approval for the hosting of the Games, which might be staged late in the year or early in 2019.
He said: “Our sports-loving governor has given the approval, and we are currently at the preparation stage.
“IBILE Games will come back if not at the end of the year or early next year we will have it, we are having series of Games now and we are preparing for the Youth Games in Ilorin.
“We will like to get everybody together because the Games are all-inclusive, it has a lot of impacts in sports development in Lagos and we want to continue with these legacies.
“We are preparing a schedule for it, how we can structure it for better efficiency. We want a structured tournament that will be documented.”
