Housewife accuses husband of battering over fetching of water

A housewife, simply identified as  Boluwatife, has reported her husband, Emmanuel, to the police after he allegedly beat her black and blue for refusing to fetch water.

Boluwatife had further alleged that Emmanuel attacked and beat her up, together with his sister and mother. The incident was said to have occurred on May 16, 2022, with the woman seeking justice to no avail. She then decided to approach a human rights group, Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN), believing it will get to the root of the issue, with the aim of getting justice for the right party. The group has since launched an investigation, with the plan to present its findings to the police.

According to the victim, the husband asked her to go and stay with his eldest sister who had just given birth and then later again asked her to return home, solely to fetch water.

When she got home, she told her husband that there was enough water in the house because she had filled the drums before leaving home for her sister-in-law’s place.

She then told her husband that even if there was no water at home, he should have instructed his younger sister, Morayo, living with them, to do the needful.

This, she claimed, led to her husband, Morayo, and her mother-in-law teaming up to beat her, unmindful of the baby strapped to her back.

A member of ACVPN said: “She claimed that while her husband was beating her, his mother and younger sister held her. She reported the matter at Ilaro Police Station, but the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), instead of arresting her husband, arrested her elder sister.  She said her husband had apparently bribed the DPO. The DPO said he would not release her elder sister until they had replaced the DSTV dish, motorcycle, and door, which she claimed were not damaged by her and her elder sister. She said the husband boasted to her hearing that there was nothing she or her family would do as they did not have a male father figure in their house. He has since seized her phone and took the N30,000 in her purse. She further said the DPO did not arrest her husband for any of the crimes he has committed even though she still cannot see with her injured eyes. What kind of bribe will make an officer of the law receive that will make him so reckless as to ignore this kind of injury?”
