House urges ministry to close down unregistered schools in Edo

The Edo House of Assembly on Tuesday urged the state Ministry of Education to close down all unregistered schools in the state.
The Speaker, Kabiru Adjoto made the appeal when the state’s Commissioner of Education, Emmanuel Agbale briefed the house on the 2018 budget performance of the ministry.
Adjoto said the existence of unregistered schools was a major challenge to government plan to provide quality education to the people of the state.
He described the situation as unacceptable and charged the house to synergies with the ministry to help tackle the menace.
Earlier, Agbale said the ministry had concluded plans to tackle the problem, adding that the state government was carrying out reform in the sector.
He said: “The number of unregistered schools in the state currently outnumbers the registered ones.
“The reform will give rise to a college of education in Abudu among other things.”
