The Police in Edo State on Monday said an Israeli working with Setraco Construction Company has been abducted by gunmen.
The Police Public Relation Officer, Moses Eguavoen, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Benin.
Eguavoen said that the Israeli was allegedly kidnapped at Upper Mission Road in Benin.
Eguavoen said that one of the soldiers on guard duty was reportedly shot by the kidnappers before abducting the expatriate.
Two soldiers were drafted to provide security for the expatriate after they had stopped work on a road project in the Edo State capital.
They abandoned work on the road due to incessant kidnappings in the state.
The PPRO said: “One of the soldiers was allegedly shot, but I cannot confirm if he is dead.
“The police have commenced investigation into the abduction to unravel those behind the act.
“We want to assure the public of safety of their lives and property.”
