A group, Lagos Advocacy Group, has demanded that the constituency of the representative of Lagos West Senatorial District, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, in Ogun State should recall him to serve them.
The group made the call in a statement on Tuesday following a pronouncement by Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State.
Abiodun had while speaking at a function said Adeola was only on loan to Lagos State as Ogun is his state of origin and he would soon be needed to serve his people.
Following on this, the Lagos Advocacy Group said it was time that real Lagosians started serving themselves instead of outsiders.
The statement by the Lagos Advocacy Group said: “Our attention which is the attention of concerned Lagos State Indigenes has been drawn to the inflammatory statement made by the Executive Governor of Ogun State; Prince Dapo Abiodun describing Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola Yayi as a borrowed senator to Lagos, in his words ‘’Our Son distinguished Senator that we are still lending to Lagos State …. Distinguished Senator Olamilekan Adeola YAYI … when we are ready, we will recall him.
“We regard the statement as reckless, inflammatory, inciting and a slap on the face of Lagos State Indigenes at large and a confirmation to the fact non-indigenes have been governing us in Lagos State contrary to claims from the dissenters that we are noise makers.
“For the records Solomon Olamilekan Yayi is known to be from Yewa in Ogun State but has been representing the people of Lagos West back to back for 20 years and more while in actual sense he is representing the people of Yewa, Ilaro, Owode, and the Egbado area of Ogun State.
“We are by the careless statement of the governor of Ogun State weary of another situation when other representatives of Lagos State in both House of Representatives and House of Assembly in Lagos State will be regarded as proud sons and daughters of Ogun State loaned to Lagos State.
“We will recall that by the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria particularly Section 47 which states that there shall be a National Assembly for the Federation which shall consist of a Senate and a House of Representatives. And Section 48 states further that Senate Shall consists of three Senators from each State and one from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
“From the above and reading Section 14 (3) in addition to Section 47 & 48 states that ‘The composition of the Government of the Federation or any of its agencies and the conduct of its affairs shall be carried out in such a manner as to reflect the Federal Character of Nigeria and the need to promote National Unity, and also to command national loyalty, thereby assuring that there shall be no predominance of persons from a few states or from a few ethnic or other sectional groups in that Government or in any of its agencies.’
“We can see clearly that the number of representatives from Lagos State is not complete and pending when the identity of other senator or House of Representatives and House of Assembly members will be known, Lagos West has no representation in the Senate which is a breach of the Section 14 (3), Section 47 and Section 48 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Amended.
“It will therefore be right to consider recalling Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan YAYI from the House of Senate for his not being from Lagos West which he claims to represent.
“There is need for a competent Indigene of Lagos State to fill the position which is now vacant by the affirmation of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
“O too ge.
“Lagos has real inhabitants.”
