The Ogun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has struck out Hon. Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade’s application seeking the disqualification of Governor Dapo Abiodun on grounds of submitting false academic qualification.
The judgement was delivered on Saturday by the Tribunal headed by Justice Yusuf Halilu.
The Tribunal ruled that the issue of information about academic qualification in Abiodun’s sworn affidavit had been laid to rest by the Court of Appeal and as such Akinlade cannot be allowed to resurrect or open same matter.
The Tribunal described the issue as “statue barred.”
It noted it would stand by the decision of the Appellate Court, adding that the petitioner also filed the application challenging Abiodun’s qualification outside the window of time allowed.
The Tribunal eventually threw out Akinlade’s petition.
Akinlade was the candidate of the Allied People’s Movement for the election.
His candidature was supported by a former Governor of the State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
Akinlade moved to the APM after losing the ticket of the All Progressives Congress to Abiodun.
