Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State has approved the immediate recruitment of 100 holders of diploma as drivers for ministries, departments and agencies.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Head of Civil Service of the state, Alhaji Bature Shinkafi, in Sokoto on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the drivers will be employed from the 23 Local Governments Areas of the state.
The statement explained: “The initiative is sequel to the changing trend which requires educated persons to handle hi-tech and modern vehicles.
“Most of these modern vehicles had been fully equipped with computers and other hi-tech gadgets.”
The statement said the state government had bought some vehicles which needed effective and proper handling by educated and highly-skilled manpower.
It further stated that the gesture would boost the employment generation efforts of the state government.
It said further: “All drivers in the employment of the state government will continue to serve in such positions.
“Necessary arrangements had been made to ensure the expeditious implementation of the project for the overall development of the state.”
