Governor Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State on Monday urged religious leaders to properly educate their followers not to turn the general elections in 2015 into a do or die affair.
Yero made the call when the leadership of the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit in Kaduna.
He said leadership comes from God so people must learn to allow the will of God to always prevail.
“Anyone who goes contrary to this is therefore challenging his creator,” he said, adding that the Church had a role to play in ensuring peaceful elections.
The governor urged the Christian leaders to preach peace, love and mutual coexistence before, during and after the election, so as to engender growth and development in the state and the country.
He prayed for a peaceful Christmas celebration and wished the people of the state happiness on the occasion.
Earlier, the state Chairman of CAN, Rev. Fr. George Dodo, said the visit was in the spirit of Christmas to share the message of peace, solidarity and pray for the administration.
Dodo lauded the governor for the peaceful conduct of the political parties’ primaries across the state and prayed for the peaceful conduct of the polls in 2015.
He advised politicians to guard their utterances and sensitise their followers on the need to make the forthcoming general elections transparent and violence-free.
