African champions, the Super Falcons, will smile home with the sum of $2 million should they emerge as the winners of the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada.
The World football governing body on Monday announced that the tournament’s prize money has been doubled from the previous tournament.
The winners will receive $2 million (approximately £1,280,000) compared to the $1 million won by Japan in 2011.
A total of $15 million will be on offer for the tournament in Canada, which runs fromJune 6 to July 5, up from $10 million four years ago.
The seven-time African Champions will do battle against USA, Australia and Sweden in Group B of the tournament.
The 2014 men’s World Cup offered $576 million, with $35 million to winners, Germany.
