Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has lauded the outgoing Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ojukwu, for quelling farmers and herdsmen clashes in the state.
Uguwanyi gave the commendation at the pull-out parade organised for Ojukwu in Enugu on Friday.
The governor commended Ojukwu’s application of intellectual prowess to bring peace to the state in general and Nimbo Community in Uzo-uwani council area in particular.
Uguwanyi said: “Ojukwu, who is a first class graduate of material of psychology, brought his intellect and police experience to bear and bring peace to Enugu during the time he came when the state had serious crisis in Nimbo community.
“On behalf of the state government, I wish you well in your future endeavours.”
The General Officer Commanding, 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, lauded Ojukwu’s meaningful suggestions and contributions at the meeting of Security Council of the state.
Represented by Brigadier General Ola Akijube, Attahiru said: “We will miss you so much for your great intellect and thoughtfulness over security issues.”
A retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Aloysius Okorie, described Ojukwu as one of the finest officers in the Nigeria Police in recent times.
Okorie wished Ojukwu well “as he goes back to integrate with the society”.
The Representative of Enugu State Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Julius Nnaji, recalled that the traditional rulers enjoyed more respect during Ojukwu’s time as a police commissioner.
Nnaji said that through Ojukwu, the traditional rulers were more security conscious in their respective communities.
Ojukwu is retiring as he clocks 60 years on October 28, 2016, after serving the Nigerian Police for 32 years.
The outgoing police commissioner’s tenure in Enugu State only lasted for six months.
