Former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Plateau State, Barrister Olivie Dazyem, has belittled the All Progressives Congress-led Government in the state over its castigation of the immediate past administration.
Dazyem described the APC government as mischievous and engaging in deliberate misinformation.
Dazyem, in a statement on Sunday, pointed out that the report of the Transition Committee in Plateau State, headed by the state’s Deputy Governor, Prof. Soni Tyoden, has exposed the government in a negative light.
It will be recalled that the Transition Committee in Plateau State had in its report indicted the immediate past government in the state of mismanagement and embezzlement of the state’s resources.
It was said to have forced the state into a debt of N222.3 billion.
But Dazyem said the allegations are untrue.
According to her: “The handover notes, contains a comprehensive breakdown of debts and liabilities of N 103,956,933,452.96 with N19.7b as the state’s indebtedness to commercial banks. The balance is for bond refinancing, inter-agency loans and liabilities.
“But, the Committee also raised issues on appointments and promotions made during the tenure of the preceding government. We wish to state clearly that the appointments and promotions were done in accordance with civil service procedures.
“The contemplated review of appointments and promotions suggests that the Committee intents to substitute appointees with their wards, relatives and cronies.
“Having listened to and read the Committee’s submission as presented by its Chairman, we are compelled to reach the following conclusions that government is out for a vendetta and witch-hunt aimed at ridiculing the immediate past PDP Government in the state.
“The Committee did not adequately studied the hand over notes, or if it did, It is clear that the present administration of APC is out ridicule the immediate past PDP administration; hence, the resort to engage in smear campaign.
“Noteworthy is the attempt by persons who served in the first tenure of Sen. Jonah David Jang to praise his first tenure but chose to denigrate the second tenure because they were dropped.
“We wish to state categorically that those who served under Sen. Jonah David Jang are not opposed to inspection of the previous administration’s activities. Our stand is that such exercise should be done within the ambit of the law, due process and fair hearing.
“We expect that as an administration that came into being on the “Rule of Law ” mantra its actions must be devoid of any semblance of witch-hunt, vendetta and the like. In the interest of justice, we aid that those actors in the previous administration be given the opportunity to defend their actions and/or inactions while carrying out their assigned duties and responsibilities.
” A situation whereby Transition Committee transformed itself into an investigative panel is unacceptable. The Lalong government should be bold enough to tell the Plateau people that it is setting up a panel to investigate the last administration.
“We are not afraid of being investigated, but do what is right according to the law.
Despite the misinformation, mischief and provocation by the APC Government in the State, we call on our supporters to remain calm, resolute and focused in their support of the PDP. It’s just a matter of time.”
