The second edition of the Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed Closed Badminton Championship got underway on Tuesday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The three-day tournament will hold at the Kwara State Indoor Sports Hall with morning and afternoon session.
Over 300 Athletes drawn mainly from the Secondary Schools across the State will feature in the Championship billed to end on Thursday.
Sponsored by the Chief Medical Director of the Kwara State General Hospital, Ilorin, Doctor Abdulfatai Olokoba, the championship is meant to discover budding talents from the grassroots and nurture them for future challenges.
Speaking on the tournament, the State Badminton Coach, Kehinde Jimoh, said necessary arrangements have been completed to ensure a hitch-free championship.
Coach Jimoh called on members of the public to grace the occasion, especially the final scheduled for Thursday at the same venue, where the State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, is expected as the Special Guest of Honour and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ola-Olu Alli, will preside.
He also explained that the Inter-Club Badminton Championship would begin on March 31 in Ilorin with seven Clubs participating.
