The League Management Company on Friday said that the 2013/2014 Glo Premier League earlier scheduled to kick-off on February 21 would now commence on March 7.
The LMC, in its official twitter account, quoted the LMC Chairman, Hon. Nduka Irabor, as saying that the body resolved on a two-week shift following representations from clubs.
The LMC said it had met in Abuja to appraise reports from stadium inspection teams, saying that “some of the clubs are grappling with peculiar constraints”.
It said that some of the constraints included access to funding and validation of registration documentation.
The body, therefore, said the postponement was to extend the registration process period, to enable the clubs tidy up their documents for certification.
The statement further quoted Irabor as saying: “We have agreed to accommodate this popular request.
“They cited their peculiar nature of fund release by government, their principal sponsors and the observations made by LMC Stadium Inspection Teams.
“We have considered the reports of the reams and the need to allow the clubs a two-week period to correct observed deficiencies in their facilities.
“Hence, the league, earlier scheduled to start on February 21, will now start on March 7.”
Irabor, however, added that the new kick-off date for the season would not be shifted, as the league would start with only clubs that had met the minimum requirements.
“There will be no further extension after this period and the league will start with only clubs that meet the minimum requirements,” it said.
According to the statement, the LMC will, however, not certify any club that fails to comply with the recommended upgrades of the LMC inspection team, within the extension period granted.
