Gallant Commander: My human rights abused by NSCDC

A Commander of a Non-Governmental Organisation, Gallant  Chaplain  Corps, Chaplain Patrick Benson, has alleged that the Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has infringed on his right as a citizen of Nigerian that does not commit any crime.
According to Benson, the NSCDC got a wrong information that the GCC was operating as an illegal security organisation in the state, which led to his arrest and detention.
He lamented that his right and image had been infringed upon, dented and stained as a good citizen of the country for parading him to journalists as a criminal.
According to him: “I have not seen it anywhere in the constitution of this country that an organisation like Civil Defence has the constitutional power to keep a suspect in their custody for three days under handcuffs like an ardent criminal without taking the person to the police or court.”
Benson said the GCC has its headquarters in opposite the High Court in Omu-Aran, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara  State, with Emmanuel Ishiola as the Commandant General Chaplain.
He said the Organisation has never been known or operating as a security outfit but rather as an NGO focusing into humanitarian services, which included supporting Pastors and Imams in their daily activities.
He added: “We also support the hurting as a result of war, crisis and natural disasters like the Internally Displaced Persons.
“We do go to their camps with even relief materials.
“When we came into town, we wrote a letter of introduction on 28/3/2016 to all the security agencies in the state, copied specifically to the said Civil Defence on 22/4/2016 for our recruitment of batch ‘A’ training and stating our mission and aims, in which we never said we are security agents under any guise.
“If any organization is registered with Corporate Affairs Commission in this country I think it is genuine enough to carry out her lawful assignments under which it is formed.
“We as an organization had in 2015 registered as an NGO with the following registration number: CAC/13867/2015.
“If not because of lack of knowing and doing the right thing, how can organisation like Civil Defence arrest someone without doing the needed investigation.
“I see a problem somewhere that needs to be properly addressed”
Benson enjoined all human rights activist and organisations to help in getting his right back.
He said remaining an onlooker will give room for the NSCDC and other organisations to carry out such unlawful activities.
However, A. Bamaiyi of the NSCDC insisted Benson is a criminal.
Bamaiyi said investigation was still on.
