Despite the poor performance of Golden Eaglets goalkeeper, Dele Alampasu, in the 3-3 draw against Sweden on Tuesday, the goalkeeper coach of the team, Emeka Amadi, has said that the keeper will still be in goal for Nigeria against Iraq in the final group F match of the ongoing U-17 World Cup slated for 2pm Nigerian time but 5pm local time at the Rashid Stadium (former Al Ahli Stadium) on Friday.
Amadi admitted that the keeper made a primary school student error in the second group match against Sweden, which the Eaglets had to come from two goals down to eventually end the game in a 3-3 draw.
Amadi said: “We had some lapses.
“And we’ve noted our lapses.
“But what I can say is that the first goal Sweden scored was uncalled for, too cheap and that made us to be very nervous.
“It is not easy to come from two goals down and eventually got a draw of 3-3 at the end.
“This is the World Cup.
“We have two types of motivation.
“The ‘I’ motivation.
“He must motivate himself and I am doing the external motivation by talking to him.
“The most important one is for him to motivate himself.
“He should not doubt himself.
“He is a good goalkeeper.
“We believe in him.
“We don’t doubt him.
“He doesn’t need to be afraid.
“The mistake has been made.
“He should put it behind him.
“That’s why he is the number one.”
Amadi however boasted that the Eaglets were not afraid of any team in the competition and that the Nigerian team would take its chance in the remaining matches as the competition progresses.
He added: “Why should we be scared of the Iraqis or any other team?
“They are here to compete and not to just participate alone.
“They have their own strategy and we also have ours.”
