The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Boboye Oyeyemi, has admonished staff to imbibe high disciplinary conduct in their private and official lives.
Oyeyemi said the FRSC Management will not condone any act of indiscipline from the staff.
According to him, whoever undermines the disciplinary standards of the FRSC will be made to pay severely for his action through appropriate punishments.
According to the Head, Media Relations and Strategy of the FRSC, Bisi Kazeem, Oyeyemi gave the warning while addressing staff of Zone 6 Headquarters and Rivers State Sector Command in Port Harcourt during his official visit to the state.
He told the staff that as the lead agency for road safety management and administration in the country, the FRSC has attained both local and international recognition, which every staff must work hard to sustain.
He said any conduct that undermines the integrity and core values of the Corps must be of concern to every staff who should do all that is possible to avoid it.
He said: “I have consistently stated that FRSC under my leadership will not condone indiscipline and indolence.
“And in demonstration of this, those that were tried and convicted of the offences were made to suffer appropriate punishments to serve as deterrence to others.
“Everyone must contribute to the growth and development of the FRSC by avoiding acts that could dent the image of the Corps.
“Thus everyone must carry out his responsibilities as effectively as possible.”
Speaking on the issues of quality service delivery, the Corps Marshal charged the staff to sustain efficient service delivery for which the FRSC has been noted, stressing that while patrolmen must show civility and humaneness in enforcement of traffic laws, they must be fair and firm in dealing with violators of traffic offences.
Oyeyemi said: “Your response to distress calls must be prompt and you must endeavour to show dedication whenever you are carrying out rescue operations.
“This year’s ember months campaign has been flagged off and every staff must prepare to work hard to make the roads safer and obstruction-free for all road travellers during the yuletide period.”
On welfare, Oyeyemi assured staff that within the limits of available resources he would address the challenges they are facing, pointing out that while capacity development is being given priority by the Management through regular training and retraining programmes, review of the educational policy, regular promotion exercise and provision of basic needs, he warned them to avoid anonymous petition writing, sending of fake text messages and spreading rumours that could damage the internal cohesion of the Corps.
“The one staff, one house policy we initiated is on course, while the Post Service Scheme is being strengthened through the inauguration of its Board to make the operations of the scheme more efficient, open and transparent,” he stated.
Oyeyemi further restated the commitment of his Management to work for the success of the various staff welfare policies that have been put in place, but urged the staff to show greater commitment to hard work and quality service delivery.
