The traditional ruler of Oko in Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State, Obi Eze Osita, has appealed the state government to construct the 56km road that leads to the community.
The Akor of Oko Kingdom, a riverside clan near Asaba, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in the community.
He said the call had become necessary especially now that there was a warning on impending flood in communities along the bank of the River Niger.
He said that the road liked the upland part of the clan to the coastal parts, adding that present condition of the road was the greatest challenge facing the people.
The monarch said: “If the road had been tarred, every other thing would have naturally fallen into place.
“When you tell people to relocate and there is no access road to upland, how easy would that be for the people? What is on ground in the place that they are relocating to?
“Relocation is not a thing you just wake up and do. It has to follow a due process; at least, before you relocate, you would have prepared a place you are relocating to.
“You would have had this registered in your mind early enough that you will be relocating and then you move when the time comes.”
Ostia, however, said that the community was used to flood but prayed that this year’s flooding would not be of the same magnitude as that of 2012.
