Five in court for allegedly stabbing neighbours with knife, scissors

Four men and a teenager were on Thursday brought before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court charged with stabbing two of their neighbours with a knife and scissors, causing them grievous body injury.
The accused are Soremi Dele, 48; Kehinde Abiodun, 21; Soremi Abiodun, 23; Ogundimu Gbenga, 21; and Bamidele Zainab, 19.
The accused were arraigned on a four-count charge of assault, unlawful assembly, conspiracy and breach of public peace.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Matthew Famuyiwa, told the court that the accused committed the offence on January 4 at 7.30 p.m at Oke-bode area of Abeokuta.
Famuyiwa said that an argument had ensued between one of the defendants, Abiodun Soremi and the complainants, Wasiu Sogbaike and Kayode Ajayi.
He said after the argument, Soremi flashed a torchlight on the complainants which later resulted into a fight between them.
The prosecutor added that when Soremi’s friends sighted their friend and complainants fighting, rather than separate them, they joined in the fight.
Famuyiwa added that when the fight broke up, the accused assaulted the complainants, Wasiu Sogbaike and Kayode Ajayi by stabbing them with knife, cutlass and scissors, causing them open injury on their head.
He added that the defendants, while armed with offensive weapons, conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace in the society.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges, while the Magistrate Olalekan Oke, granted the accused persons bail for N300,000 each with two sureties.
He added that the sureties should swear an affidavit of means and submit four recent passport photographs to the court and produce evidence of tax payment to the Ogun government.
Oke subsequently adjourned the case until January 30 for hearing.
