Five feared killed in Sunday night raid in Plateau

The attack also sent five others to an untimely grave and left several others injured.

The attackers suspected to be fulani herdsmen stormed Mbar community and set over 20 houses ablaze and destroyed farmland.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Housing and  Urban Development, Solomon Maren confirmed the attack  and described it as barbaric and unfortunate, owing to the fact that peace is gradually returning to the state capital.

According to him, the suspected fulani herdsmen were fingered  to be the brain behind the killing because last week there was another attack that led to the death of two people in the area and one fulani was cut in the act .

The Eagle Online reports that after the incident, the youths of Mbar arrested one fulani who admitted that they were paid to come and attack Mbar.

However, that security personnel have been deployed in the community to curtail further lost of lives.

Maren explained that the assailant came to Mbar community at about 11:45 PM with dangerous weapons and started shooting sporadically scaring away the villagers before embarking on destruction of lives and property.

He confirmed that five people  were killed  and five critically injured while several others been hospitalized  in  Plateau specialist Hospital, General Hospital in Barkin Ladi, Bokkos general hospital.

Maren added that rescue operation was still scrambling inside the inferno trying to rescue more victims.

The commissioner disclosed that one compound was set ablaze with five cars and three motorcycles burnt down completely.

When contacted, the Police PPRO, DSP Emmanuel Abu said he was yet to receive such information, promising that he will establish contact with the DPO of Bokkos Local government.
