The Federation of International Football Associations has ratified the three-year ban handed down to Nigeria’s Dr. Amos Adamu for seeking bribes for vote in the World Cup bid process.
FIFA said on Monday that it agreed with the position of the Court of Arbitration for Sports, which Adamu had approached to upturn the verdict of the committee that investigated the matter.
In a statement on Monday, FIFA said it was satisfied by the decision of CAS to turn down the appeals of Adamu, Amadou Diakite and Ahongalu Fusimalohi.
It said it was a confirmation of its zero tolerance approach to corruption.
The statement said: “The confirmation of these FIFA decisions by CAS underlines once more FIFA’s zero tolerance and clear stance against any breach of the FIFA Code of Ethics.”
Adamu last month lost the appeal he took to CAS for seeking bribes for vote in the race for the hosting rights of the 2018/2022 World Cup.
Diakite of Mali was originally banned for two years for corruption during the World Cup bidding races.
Fusimalohi of Tonga was also handed a two-year ban for advising undercover reporters on how to bribe FIFA executive members.
