The Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Otuoke, Prof. Accra Jaja, has said the adoption of large scale farming policy by the Federal Government will guaranty food security and create employment.
Jaja said this when he received members of the Third Phase, Federal Government Amnesty Programme in his office at Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Council Area of Bayelsa on Tuesday.
He commended the group for their peaceful disposition, noting that they would be meaningfully engaged in large scale farming.
The vice chancellor said that agriculture was a better alternative to save Nigeria from its current economic quagmire.
Jaja, however, advised the ex-agitators to always think of how they could contribute toward national development and shun selfish tendencies.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Ebi john, called for a partnership with the university on agricultural initiative set up by the group.
John said the group came up with the initiative to meaningfully engage youths of the Niger Delta and also contribute toward the development of the region.
He noted that the initiative was serving as a paradigm shift from what agriculture used to be.
The leader said that the new idea which they want to inject into agriculture informed their decision to partner with higher institutions in the Niger Delta.
