FG sets up committee on job creation

In an effort to curtail the surge of unemployment through creation of sustainable and decent job, the Federal Government has inaugurated a Standing Committee on Job Creation chaired by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu.
Addressing the committee during the inaugural meeting, Wogu affirmed that the administration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will leave no stone unturned to ensure that Nigerians who are willing and able to work have jobs, adding that unemployment is not peculiar to Nigeria but a global challenge.
The Chief Economic Adviser to Jonathan, Nwanze Okidegbe, who is also a member of the committee, stressed that the Transformation Agenda of the Jonathan administration is hinged on the tripod of fiscal consolidation, inclusive growth and job creation.
Okidegbe said that if critically looked into, the first two are working towards job creation and that it remains the hope of Jonathan that every willing Nigerian gets a job.”
The committee, which is to ensure coordination of all employment generating efforts across the MDAs as well as the private sector, has the following as members and Terms of References:

The Terms of Reference of the Committee are:
·        To identify all potential areas for massive job creation across the nation, track all strategies hitherto employed by government to create jobs and identify challenges militating against their effectiveness.
·        Synthesize all existing job creation programmes to ensure increased synergy and reduce waste associated with duplication of efforts
·        Developed an Action Plan that would demonstrate the commitment of Government to making tangible and measurable progress in this direction.
·        Continuously coordinate, monitor and report on all job creation efforts and successes
·        Consult widely and deal with any other matters related to the assignment and report quarterly to Mr. President.
The Committee members appreciated Jonathan for his commitment to job creation and the opportunity to serve in the committee on job creation.
They also promised to deliver on the mandate of the committee as laid down by the terms of reference.
