FG commiserates with victims of Jos bomb blasts

The Federal Government on Tuesday commiserated with victims of the Jos, Plateau State twin suicide bomb blasts and donated consumables to hospitals taking care of the injured.

The Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Ochekpe, who led the delegation on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan, said the Federal Government was deeply sad over the incident.

Ochekpw said: “We are here to commiserate with the Plateau government, the people of the state and especially the victims of the bomb blasts that occurred last Thursday.

“It is unfortunate that some Nigerians would not allow the rest of the country to live in peace.

“We’ve seen the victims.

“We’ve seen how devastating the effect of the bomb blast was and we prayed for their quick recovery.

“On behalf of Mr. President, we present drugs and other medical supplies for the treatment of the victims.”

The minister appealed to those who had continued to trouble Nigeria to stop the carnage and pledged Federal Government’s commitment to end insurgency in the country.

Alhaji Mohammed Sani-Sidi, the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, said the Agency would continue to monitor the situation of the victims.

Sani-Sidi said: “The Federal Government, through NEMA, provided consumables to all hospitals taking care of the victims.

“We will continue to monitor them to see where we can still come in.”

Sani-Sidi urged Nigerians to be security conscious and alert to avert some of the ugly incidences.

The Plateau State Deputy Governor, Ignatius Longjan, who received the delegation on behalf of Governor Jonah Jang, commended the Federal Government for its prompt response.

The governor said NEMA, security agencies and other voluntary organisations promptly attended to the victims when the blasts occurred.

Jang added that the Federal Government’s gesture was a big relief to the state government as it would not be able do all that was needed to take care of the victims alone.

The Federal Government’s delegation included the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr Sotonye Wakama, and the Deputy Commandant-General of the Nigerian Security Civil Defence Corps, Evans Ewurum.
