The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has described as a show of shame the attack on delegates by gun wielding thugs at the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State.
Fayemi, also an aspirant, spoke against the backdrop of the scuttling of the primaries midway by those he described as having seen the writing clearly that they were going to lose the election.
Speaking with newsmen after the scuttled primary, the former governor said: “It was a real show of shame.
“It was a very sad day for democracy and for us in the APC.
“It was not unexpected though.
“We received intelligence of coordinated attempts to disrupt it.
“Some knew it was not going to go their way.
“Only five LGs covered before they moved in to disrupt it.
“If not that you are working ultimately against the interest of our party in the state, you should not have gone that way.
“It did not just start anyway.
“There had been coordinated attempts on my person, particularly about three or four of them.
“So funny that APC aspirants became marketers of the outcome of the kangaroo panel set up by Governor Ayodele Fayose.
“They pushed it up to the level of the APC panel, which told them to take it to the court to give it the force of law.
“They also told delegates I was on a revenge mission.
“That if I won I will take it out on them what happened in 2015.
“But the declaration on April 14 shocked them.
“The turn out of the people and effusive outpouring of love demonstrated by the people shocked them.
“By the time we concluded the tour of local governments, it became obvious what will happen.
“Now they are looking for exit strategy from the party.
“That was what played out today.”
