The Nikyob Community Ranch has reiterated its commitment to promote a new concept of community peaceful coexistence through building the capacities of both farmers and herders to produce healthy pasture in Kaduna State.
The stakeholders of the Nikyob Community Ranch in Southern Kaduna State, made this commitment during a one-day dialogue session as a follow-up of the first forum where the issues that have driven the conflict between the farmers and herdsmen were discussed.
This multi-stakeholders one-day forum had in attendance participants from the Nikyob host communities of Ambam and Dangoma, Kaduna Agric Development Programme, Jema’a Vigilante Group, Divisional Police Officer, Miyetti Allah, Federation of Moslem Women Associations of Nigeria, Christian Association of Nigeria, National Council for Women Societies, Pastoral Resolve, Community Peace Partnerships, Jema’a Local Government Area and Fantsuam Foundation.
In a communique issued at the end of the dialogue meeting and jointly signed by Magani Peter, the Chairman of Nikyob Community Ranch; Asabe Danlami, the Chairperson, Jema’a NCWS; and Kazanka Comfort, the CEO, Fantsuam Foundation, disclosed that the concept of organic pasture is certainly a new concept, which makes the Nikyob Community Ranch both unusual, special and ground-breaking in several respects.
It stated: “This project in its attempts at building community peace has gone further to use a technological development which has global support although it is yet to be widely recognized and practiced in Nigeria.
“The Nikyob Community Ranch Dialogue Committee has accepted the observations made during the project site visit and has started implementing the recommendations, including making contact with land preparation specialists at the ASTC, located at the KADP offices at Samaru.
“The Forum noted that the ASTC had already sent in its sub-soiler and the next operation of ploughing is being awaited.
“The Nikyob Community Ranch management team has received significant support from the community leader, Hakimi Hosea who has been undertaking personal supervisory visits to the project site
“The Forum notes that the Dialogue Committee has successfully mobilized its members to erect the wire mesh net fencing around the farm. This level of community engagement and commitment is highly commendable
“Also the recommendation for a GIS coordinates and mapping for the project site has been successfully undertaken by the ASTC team.”
