Farmer lists advantages of snail consumption

A local farmer, Ukonu Ukonu, on Monday said that the consumption of snail meat would help boost blood count.
Ukonu, a snail breeder and owner of Dynapharm International, a firm that specializes on snail farming, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that snails have inherent components to boost human blood count.
The expert said eating a lot of snails would help individuals maintain full blood count, while encouraging Nigerians to consume it.
He said: “Snails are natural blood tonic that enhances the blood count of individuals who frequently consume it. There are lots of testimonies to snail consumption.
“Snail gives you blood, if you are short of blood, if you eat a lot of snails you will have your full blood count.
“There are ten elements that help in blood formation and a medium size snail has nine of these elements to boost blood count. It is a natural blood tonic.”
He also revealed another inherent quality of snails which was its capacity to smoothen the human skin as a result of frequent consumption.
Ukonu said: “Snails have the capacity to smoothen the skin following constant consumption, it makes the skin brighter.
“Researches have shown that snails are currently being used to make skin repairing creams and ointments.
“Various data have indicated that the snail consumption has been known to improve the development of foetus in pregnant women.”
Ukonu also encouraged individuals to cultivate snails in their homes.
He said: “Snails are very easy to breed now, we have invented a mobile snail farm, people can now breed snails.
“With vegetables and fruits you can easily cultivate the snails in our farms, homes, hospitals and offices too.
“We train people constantly on the benefits of snail farming and also the financial gains inherent. I recently organised training at the Lagos State University on organic snail cultivation.”
