The Chairman of FCT Football Association, Musa Talle, on Thursday in Abuja urged female coaches to strive to equal the achievement of the national women’s football team coach, Florence Omagbemi.
Talle told the News Agency of Nigeria that Omagbemi had made the country proud, having won the African Women Cup of Nation nine times.
NAN reports that the World Football Governing Body has shortlisted Omagbemi for the “Best FIFA Women’s Coach 2017” award.
The award ceremony will take place in London on October 23.
Talle said: “We are happy that she’s being recognised by FIFA for her outstanding work. She is the only black woman nominated in Africa.
“We can all recall her achievement when she was playing as a player in Super Falcons and now as a coach of Super Falcons.
“I will advise other female coaches in Nigeria to follow her footstep so that we can have more nominees in Nigeria and in Africa in future.
“She is courageous and discipline and she really needs our vote; that is the only thing we can do to support her as football enthusiasts and as a country.”
Omagbemi, a former Super Falcons’ Captain, was the only woman nominated for CAF’s “African Coach of the Year 2016” award.
