Chief Michael Abdul, a former deputy governor of Nasarawa State, has emerged winner of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the Nasarawa North senatorial district.
Chief Clement Uhembe, the PDP Returning Officer for the senatorial election, announced the result on Wednesday in Akwanga.
According to Uhembe, Abdul got 252 votes to defeat his closest rival, Innocent Lagi, a former Commissioner of Justice in the state, who got 99 votes, while Joel Adagadzu and Yakubu Mama got 11 and 2 votes, respectively.
He said that it was only one vote that was invalid.
He, therefore, declared Abdul as the winner of the election and commended both the aspirants and delegates for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 365 delegates were accredited and they voted during the election.
In his acceptance speech, Abdul promised to ensure effective and quality representation for the people of the district.
Speaking with newsmen, Abdul thanked the delegates and leaders of the party for voting him as the PDP candidate for the senatorial district.
He described the election as transparent and peaceful while appealing to those that contested with him and lost and all other members of the party to join hands with him to ensure victory for the party in the 2019 election.
