The Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Traditional Council, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, on Monday charged Nigerian leaders at all levels in the country to always ensure justice among their followers in order to promote peace and unity of the country.
Abubakar made the call at his Wadata palace in Bida, when former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana, paid him a condolence visit over the demise of the Kpotun Nupe, Alhaji Halilu Usman.
According to him: “The leaders should be just and treat all their followers equally.
“This will always promote peace in the country.
“Our people often rejoice to see justice done without fear or favour and that is the manifestation of the result of social justice, which is usually peace.”
The Etsu Nupe urged leaders to always have the fear of God in everything they do, while reminding them of day of the reckoning in whatever position they find themselves.
“You should not use your position to enrich yourselves or your families rather you should use your position to deliver dividends’ of democracy to the people,” Abubakar said.
He however said that the death of Usman was a big loss to the Emirate, Niger State and the country at large.
He described the late Usman as a detribalized Nigerian who always stood for the truth and unity of the country.
Earlier, Gana noted that he was at the palace to commiserate with the traditional ruler over the death of his uncle, Usman.
Gana said that the Nupes have lost a great leader, who contributed immensely to the peace, unity and development of Nupeland and the country at large.
He prayed God to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest and grant members of the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
