The Governor of Niger State, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, on Tuesday urged Nigerians to report anybody or group of persons seen with tyres to security agencies.
Aliyu said those found with tyres are planning violent protests in the state.
This is coming few days to the long awaited general elections.
Aliyu said at the occasion of the official commissioning ceremony of the Nigeria Union of Teachers’ EndWell Model School and tractors hiring scheme in Minna that the people of Niger State will accept the results as will be released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Accordingly, Aliyu said: “If you see anybody collecting or keeping tyres, please report them to the police because they have bad intentions.
“Most of them are ignorant.
”If they are educated, if any father says go and do so, so, so, or anybody gives you N20 to go and burn a place, you should ask him first: where is your son so that we can go together.
“But here we are, politicians hiding our sons, sending them abroad and getting the sons of poor people to be involved in mayhem.
“Please let us ensure that the election is peaceful.
“In Niger State, we will accept whatever the result is and we will sustain democracy in Niger State.
“After the elections, the judiciary will not be biased or used unjustly.”
Aliyu commended the NUT for its proactiveness towards improving the lot of teachers in the state, urging other professions to emulate what they have done.
Earlier, the Niger State NUT Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Umar, said the union is the first in the North to establish a model school and acquire tractors with full implements to assist in boosting the economic status of its members and the general public.
