Election: FRSC certifies 1,038 vehicles for logistic in Enugu

The Federal Road Safety Corps has certified 1,038 vehicles for election duties in Enugu State.
The Sector Commander of FRSC Enugu State Command, Kalu Ogbonnaya, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Enugu.-
Ogbonnaya said that Independent National Electoral Commission provided a total of 1,640 vehicles, which includes buses and few trucks, for the certification.
He noted that FRSC received the vehicles to be certified came from INEC’s transport partners in the state – National Union of Road Transport Workers and National Association of Transport Owners.
He said: “We have certified 1,038 vehicles sent to us through INEC from NURTW and NATO among a total of 1,640 vehicles.
“The remaining shortfall in the total number of vehicles will be certified before Thursday morning.
“For now, we are having only vehicles from Awgu council area and some parts of Udi council areas within the 9^th Mile Corner area not certified.
“But they will be cleared latest Thursday morning.”
According to him, the essence of certification of the vehicles is to ensure that they have the minimal requirement to ensure the safe movement of electoral materials as well as INEC staff on election days.
He added: “For each vehicle certified, we placed a sticker on its wind screen and ensure serial numbering of the same vehicle for easy tracking.”
The INEC had earlier said it would be hiring a total of 1,700 vehicles for election duty in Enugu State for the postponed February 16 Presidential and National Assembly elections, which has been rescheduled for February 23 nationwide.
The 1,700 vehicles would be complemented with internal vehicles of the commission in the state.
