El-Kanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri on Thursday defeated visiting Kano Pillars FC of Kano 2-1 in a Nigeria Professional Football League match played in Maiduguri.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the match played at the El-Kanemi Warriors Sports Centre, Maiduguri was watched by large number of spectators.
The host El-kanemi secured victory through 10th and 80th minute goals by Bello Kofar Mata and Abdulrazak Aliyu, while Rabiu Ali scored for the visitors in the 40 minute of the match.
The visitors had several chances in the first half but could not score as the defence line, coordinated by the El-kanemi boys was able to hold them down.
Coach Mohammed Babaganaru of El-Kanemi told NAN in an interview that the team played very well describing it as a “Wonderful performance”.
He said: “Thank God for securing the points, you know the match is very important to us. This is the first home win. The players performed very well.”
Speaking on the team’s next match against Kwara United in Ilorin on Sunday, Babaganaru said the team would be worked upon for better performance.
