The Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Funmilayo Olayinka, is dead.
According to a news report monitored on African Independent Television, Olayinka died on Saturday.
Olayinka reportedly died in Lagos of cancer related illness.
The state government had about two weeks ago confirmed that Olayinka was sick and needed medical attention.
In a statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Tayo Ekundayo, the state government said Olayinka “has taken leave to attend to issues relating to her health.”
The state government has a few months ago denied media reports that Olayinka was sick.
Though the nature of the illness was not confirmed by Ekundayo, reports had it then that it was a kidney related issue.
Ekunday added in the statement: “We urge all well-meaning citizens of the state to remember her in their prayers.”
