The United States Mission in Nigeria has congratulated the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies and electoral stakeholders for the successful conduct of the June 21 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.
A statement issued by the embassy in Abuja on Monday commended INEC for overseeing “a credible, efficient process”, which it said, by all accounts, reflected the will of Ekiti State voters.
Further, it commended the security forces for collaborating effectively and providing a safe and secure environment free of major incidents.
The statement said: “The parties and their supporters acted responsibly during and after the election and the magnanimity exhibited by all candidates afterwards speaks highly of them and the people of Ekiti.
“That more than 50 per cent of registered voters turned out to make their voices heard bodes well for the future of Nigeria’s democracy.”
