Ekiti 2014: Ex-PDP lawmakers declare support for Adeyeye

Peoples Democratic Party members in the Ekiti State House of Assembly between 2003 and 2007 have declared their support for one of the party’s governorship aspirants, Prince Dayo Adeyeye.
The ex-lawmakers said with Adeyeye as the PDP candidate, victory in the governorship election was certain.
Speaking on behalf of the former lawmakers, the first PDP Speaker and Deputy Speaker in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Sola Ajigbolamu and Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, said: “From his character, antecedents and academic qualifications, Adeyeye fits into the kind of governor Ekiti State desires at this time.”
Ajigbolamu and Olatunbosun, who were the Speaker and Deputy Speaker under the former Governor Ayodele Fayose regime, urged the national leaders of the PDP, especially President Goodluck Jonathan, to support the agitation for the Ekiti South Senatorial District to produce the next governor by presenting Adeyeye to the Ekiti State PDP as its governorship candidate.
They said the PDP must present a candidate that will be acceptable to the elites in the state and not one that will be resented by traditional rulers and top citizens of the state.
They said in a statement: “We are speaking on behalf of majority of the PDP members in the State House of Assembly between 2003 and 2007.
“As the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, we are declaring to the public that it is Prince Dayo Adeyeye that we want as our governor.
“Adeyeye posses the kind of credentials that no one can fault. He is a lawyer, journalist and a teacher. Above all, he is also an activist, who has played prominent roles in groups like NADECO and Afenifere.
“As Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), he performed creditably well, winning awards upon awards. His landmark achievements in SUBEB are enough for us to campaign for Adeyeye’s election and we urge that he (Adeyeye) be picked as our party’s consensus candidate.”
While calling on other aspirants to support Adeyeye, the former lawmakers said; “from all indication, Adeyeye is the choice of the majority and what is necessary is for other aspirants to support him.”
In another development, the wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, has been told to perish the thought of her husband, Governor Kayode Fayemi staying in the Ekiti Government House beyond October 16, 2014.
Adeyeye’s wife, Princess Adetomilola, said this during a meeting with market women in Ise-Ekiti on Monday.
She declared: “Fayemi won’t get up to 50,000 votes in the election,” adding: “The voting strength of Ekiti is as at 2011 is 750,753 and if someone is boasting of getting more than 500,000 votes from 750,753 voters, such a person is either hallucinating or telling the public that they have perfected a digitalised rigging plan.”
Adeyeye’s wife said it was laughable for the governor’s wife to have boasted that her husband will win the governorship election with more than 500,000 votes, adding: “It is only in the dreamland that someone can score 150 marks in an examination that is based on 100 marks.”
Fayemi’s wife had said: “The margin between him and the next person will not be less than 500,000. It will be so confounding that lawyers will be discouraged to accept brief from defeated candidates to challenge the result at the tribunal.”
But Adeyeye’s wife said: “When I read it in the newspapers that Fayemi’s wife boasted that her husband will win with more than 500,000 votes, I laughed because I knew the woman was just reacting to the spur of the moment.
“I am a full blooded Ekiti daughter. My father, ruled Egbeoba Kingdom for many years. So I know that only someone who does not know Ekiti would say that her husband will defeat other contestants with more than 500,000 votes.
“In the history of elections in Ekiti, was there any time we had up to 500,000 votes?
“And where is the governor going to get the votes from? Is it from the civil servants, teachers, local government workers, health workers, pensioners, okada riders and the market women?
“Rather than going about deceiving herself, the governor’s wife should better begin to make arrangements for her exit from the government house because the next occupier is my husband, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye.”
