Kwara State Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike, has advocated for a sports summit, which will produce sports policy for Kwara State and revitalise sports development and promotion in the state and beyond.
Ejidike, who enunciated the need to overhaul sports in all ramifications as an essential panacea to social decadence among the youths, called on the Kwara State Government to reward athletes who won medals for the state in both national and international competitions.
The Pillar of Sports made the appeal when he paid a courtesy visit to Kwara State Commissioner for Sports and youth Development, Barrister Anthony Towoju, and the Special Assistant on Sports Matters, Alhaji Toyin Olokoba.
Ejidike called on the state government to provide immediate fund and logistics for the Kwara State Sports Council to enable the athletes prepare in earnest for the forthcoming National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in Lagos this year.
He said this was the only was to enhance performance and get good results.
The sports philanthropist reiterated his determination to partner with the Kwara State Government and contribute to support government’s effort to develop sports in the state.
He called for the rehabilitation of the indoor sports hall of the state’s stadium and the revitalisation of sports associations.
Ejidike commended the Kwara State Government for re-constructing the Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin and sustaining the vision of the Kwara Football Academy.
Towoju appreciated Ejidike for his philanthropic gestures in the sponsorship of competitions and donations.
Towoju reiterated the state government’s commitment to sports development which he disclosed that reward for athletes, the rehabilitation of indoor sports hall and other innovative gestures were already concluded.
Olokooba thanked the Pillar of Sports for taking the lead in encouraging sports development, even as he made reference to his contribution to the Maigida Talent Hunt Project.
