The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has called on politicians to be more circumspect in their attitude and utterances in order to sustain the gains recorded in Nigeria’s democratic experience.
Ahmed made the call while commiserating with the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, whose Principal Private Secretary, Comrade Olaitan Oyerinde, was murdered in the early hours of Friday in Benin City.
Ahmed, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba, described the incident as unfortunate, especially on the heels of a recent accident involving Oshiomhole’s convoy in which three journalists were killed and several others injured.
These incidents, according to Ahmed, are worrisome, especially against the backdrop of the fact that Edo State is close to another gubernatorial election.
While not pre-emptive of investigation of the incidences by the police, Ahmed said stakeholders in the Edo State project should recognise and respect the sanctity of life as nothing justifies extra-judicial killing.
The governor charged the police to do more than the ordinary to unravel the perpetrators of the dastardly acts and prayed God to grant Oshiomhole, the government and people of Edo State and the family of Oyerinde the fortitude to bear the loss.
