Edo assembly directs BEDC to compensate electrocuted victim’s family

The Edo State House of Assembly has directed the management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company to employ Vivan Eserihienrhien, as compensation for her twin sister, Vero, who was electrocuted by a BEDC cable.
The House gave the directives at a resolution passed on the floor on Monday in Benin.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Vero was electrocuted earlier in the year by a BEDC cable which was submerged in water.
The resolution was sequel to the consideration of the reports of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development.
The Chairman of the committee, Elizabeth Ativie, said during the consideration of the report that the victim was an undergraduate of the Delta State University.
Ativie said the victim was electrocuted by a BEDC cable submerged in water, on her way back from school.
She said the committee discovered that the management of BEDC was not represented at the burial of the victim.
The committee recommended that the BEDC should compensate the family by employing the twin sister.
The House unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendation.
The Speaker, Justin Okonoboh, therefore, directed that copies of the resolution be sent to the management of BEDC and the state governor, for immediate action.
