International news agency, AFP, reported on Tuesday that some Air France flight crews are refusing to board planes bound for Nigeria, Guinea and Sierra Leone and over fears of the Ebola outbreak.
AFP, quoting an unnamed spokesman for the airline, said cabin crews scheduled to work on some flights “have not wanted to carry out their assignment”.
Though the news agency said the spokesman refused to be drawn into providing specific details, he equally said none of the flights destined for the region had ultimately been left short-staffed.
He was quoted as saying: “In the end, all these flights left with the usual number of crew and with teams that had the usual level of qualifications, according to the regulations.”
Nigeria is one of the major destinations in Africa for most international airlines across the globe, with Air France operating multiple flights to different destinations in Nigeria.
British Airways and Emirates are also two other airlines that have multiple flights into Nigeria daily.
Since the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease, five persons have so far died in Nigeria.
The are two doctors and two nurses, who participated in the treatment of the index case, Patrick Sawyer, who was the first to die in Nigeria.
